After the fatal shooting in a Belgrade school, the Serbian government ordered three days of national mourning. This was announced by Education Minister Branko Ruzic on Wednesday at a press conference in the Serbian capital.

Earlier, a student at the Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary School in Belgrade shot at classmates and school staff, killing eight children and a security guard. This was confirmed by the Director of the Belgrade Police, Veselin Milic, at the press conference. Six other students and a teacher were injured at the school in the inner-city district of Vracar in Belgrade.

The alleged perpetrator called the police himself after the bloodbath, Milic said. He had prepared the act for a long time, he added. An earlier statement from the Ministry of the Interior said that the murder weapon came from the perpetrator’s father.
