Numerous fans and many representatives from the music industry are mourning the death of Frank Farian. On Tuesday, his family announced that the singer, producer and composer died at his home in Miami at the age of 82. This news also dismays the crew and cast of the biopic “Girl You Know It’s True” by director Simon Verhoeven. The film has been in cinemas since December 2023 and tells the story of the scandal involving the music group Milli Vanilli, founded by Farian.
In a press release, Verhoeven expressed, among other things, his sympathy for Farian’s family and his gratitude for the support that the producer gave the film project during his lifetime: “Frank supported our film from the beginning, even though my script was quite critical of it – and I will always be grateful to him for that,” said Verhoeven. In his opinion, Farian was a century old in the music studio. “With Boney M. and Milli Vanilli, he not only made history, but above all gave countless people good times and good vibes.” His deepest condolences go out to Farian’s daughter Nicole and his entire family.
Milli Vanilli member Fab Morvan also agreed: “My condolences go out to his family. His music will live on. We can never deny the happiness and joy that she brought into this world.”
Film producer Quirin Berg remembered Farian’s “enormous creativity, tenacity and passion as a music producer” in his statement. This will remain in his memory. “Without his trust and his music, our film ‘Girl You Know It’s True’ would not have been possible. Our thoughts are with his family and especially his daughter Nicole, whom we wish a lot of strength in these days.”
From the 1970s onwards, Frank Farian enjoyed success primarily as a music producer. With more than 800 million records sold, he is considered the most internationally successful producer from Germany. The music groups Boney M. and Milli Vanilli, which he founded, were primarily responsible for the worldwide success. In the current film about the cheating scandal surrounding the pop duo, Farian is portrayed by actor Matthias Schweighöfer.
