A horribly smelly hotel room is probably the nightmare of many travellers, but it gets even worse: when the unpleasant smell comes from a dead body. In a hotel in Tibet, a Chinese guest complained about the strong odor in his accommodation. He was moved to another room, the staff examined the room – and found a female body under the bed.

Apparently the decomposition process had already started. CNN and BBC, citing Chinese media, report that the man spent about half a day in the room before alerting staff to the abuse. At first he had suspected that the source of the smell was the bakery below the hotel or even his own feet. The real reason, on the other hand, was extremely disturbing.

Two days later, the guest was interrogated by the police – and it was only on this occasion that he found out that a dead person had been lying in his room. The police are now investigating the murder, but the hotel guest is not one of the suspects. The investigations have already shown that the body must have been lying there days before his arrival. A suspect has already been arrested. Apparently, the woman was already dead when her body was brought to the hotel room.

For the hotel, which is said to be very popular with influencers, the case should mean considerable image damage, since the body was not noticed for days. At first, the hotel even publicly denied the incident. The hotel guest, who unknowingly shared a room with a dead body, continues to suffer from the experience: “I’m scared and I’m still suffering from sleep problems,” he told local media. “I stay up until 2 or 3 a.m. every night and wake up at the slightest movement.”
