According to a study by the Munich Ifo Institute, the shortage of materials in German industry, which has long been an obstacle to growth, has eased somewhat.

In June, only 31.9 percent of the companies surveyed reported material shortages. In May it was still 35.3 percent, the institute said based on its current survey. Electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and car manufacturers are still particularly affected.

However, the long-term average of 15.2 percent is still clearly exceeded. “Unfortunately, the relaxation can do little to counteract the downturn in industry,” said Klaus Wohlrabe, head of the Ifo surveys. “Orders can be processed faster, but too few new ones are coming in at the moment.”
