Las Vegas police will not press charges against basketball star Victor Wembanyama’s bodyguard after he allegedly punched Britney Spears in the face. “The investigation into the alleged assault [is] closed,” the agency said in a statement.
As a newly emerged video shows, the incident may have happened differently than Britney Spears herself told Instagram. She tapped Wembanyama on the shoulder to congratulate him on his victory. “His security then slapped me in the face without turning around,” she wrote in a statement. But as a new video shows, the bodyguard apparently did not strike. TMZ released the video showing the incident.
As a police report quoted by “People” explains, he only pushed Spears backwards. “He used enough force […] that [Spears’] own hand hit her face, causing her sunglasses to fall off,” it said.
Wembanyama himself said he didn’t realize what exactly happened. He was criticized by users online because he said he had a nice dinner after the incident. He also found out later that the woman was Britney Spears. He went on to say that Spears “grabbed” him, which the video refutes. She just tapped him.
The singer had filed a complaint herself, but after the police had evaluated the recordings, the investigation was discontinued. Spears herself explained on Instagram that she was often approached by fans and that her security guards had never hit anyone because of it.
