So it wasn’t a big surprise that a panel chose the historical epicurean drama “Beloved Cook” as a candidate for this year’s Oscars. After all, he is 100 percent French, said an expert. And the fact that two of the greatest national heroes also star in it – Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel – fit as well as the lid on the copper pot.
It’s just stupid that the Cannes winner “Anatomy of a Case” with Sandra Hülser won five nominations, including best film, best director and best screenplay, while the preferred candidate came away empty-handed, too! Discussions in the industry have been heating up ever since.
