Suppose you had the choice between a 77-year-old and an 81-year-old as chancellor in Germany – would that scare you? Of course, that depends entirely on the person and their background. We already had a similar case in Germany with Konrad Adenauer. He was 85 years old when he was elected Chancellor for the fourth time in 1961. And it has to be said that his last years in government were not the best. The question of whether a political elected official is “fit for purpose” is very relevant for every democracy.
And: Is Joe Biden still fit enough? If President Biden were a woman, I would trust him to hold the job until his mid-80s. Not as a man.
