Pop superstar Taylor Swift is currently breaking all records with her “The Eras” tour. The 34-year-old has been touring the world since March 2023. Recent stops: the Australian cities of Melbourne and Sydney. But the start of their Sydney concerts was overshadowed by a severe storm.

Around 90 minutes before the show was scheduled to start at the Accor Stadium, there were lightning strikes and heavy squalls nearby. The organizers decided to evacuate some of the spectators as a precaution. Photos and videos on the X platform, formerly Twitter, show fans being brought into the covered areas of the stadium. They had to stay there for around an hour until the weather calmed down.

When Taylor Swift took the stage, she addressed the unplanned delay. “We’re having a bit of a problem with the weather. There might be a bit of rain. But I’ve never seen an Australian audience let that stop them from having fun!” she said. The appearance of US singer Sabrina Carpenter had previously been canceled. She was supposed to appear in the opening act, but her performance was canceled due to the later start of the concert. After all, Swift later brought them on stage for a song together.

Prominent Swift fans were also among the approximately 80,000 concertgoers: singer Rita Ora came with her husband, director Taika Waititi. Singer Katy Perry and actress Rebel Wilson were also spotted in the audience. And of course Swift’s partner, footballer Travis Kelce, who flew to Australia specifically to accompany her on the tour.

Taylor Swift plays a sold-out Accor Stadium four nights in a row. The most expensive cards cost up to 1200 Australian dollars. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese recently revealed that he was also able to get one of the coveted tickets. “Sydney, like Melbourne last week, is in a frenzy over Tay Tay,” he told FoxFM. When Swift appears in Australia, he is not the most famous person there, said Albanese.
