Hollywood star George Clooney (62) and his wife Amal Clooney (46) own some magnificent properties in different countries. The best known of these is probably Clooney’s paradise villa in Laglio on Lake Como in Italy. The actor purchased the dream house in 2002 and regularly welcomes prominent guests there such as his good friends Brad Pitt (60) and Matt Damon (53) or Prince Harry (39) and Duchess Meghan (42). Clooney has not owned a villa in the British county of Berkshire west of London since 2014. But this property seems to be causing the star increasing distress lately.
According to the Daily Mirror, Clooney and his wife Amal are said to have given up their mansion, which they allegedly purchased for the equivalent of more than 17 million euros. Residents tell the British newspaper that the Hollywood star has not been seen in their town for several months.
Instead, the Clooneys would prefer to stay on their property in the south of France, which George Clooney is said to have bought in 2021 for a rumored 7.5 million euros. The dreaded rains in Great Britain are said to have been the deciding factor in the famous couple’s escape.
The land around Clooney’s luxury villa in southern England has been flooded at least six times since it was purchased ten years ago. In the past 13 months alone, the garden of the extensive property, which also includes a fitness studio, a swimming pool and a home cinema, has been flooded twice. Flood warnings remain in effect for the area. The level of the Thames is currently almost twice as high as normal following a particularly rainy February.
Clooney’s neighbors interviewed by the Daily Mirror can fully understand the star’s alleged departure. The rain of the past few weeks has made life in the south of England “very difficult”. “We could also use a bit more warmth, so I can understand why George left,” says a resident.
George and Amal Clooney and their twins Alexander and Ella, who were born in June 2017, probably chose the rainy weather on the island with February temperatures between four and eight degrees Celsius against the pleasant life in their spacious mansion in the mountainous hinterland Côte d’Azur swapped. The property there is said to have been built in the 18th century and has a ten-hectare vineyard, a pool and a tennis court.
The Clooney couple was last seen in the sun in Provence this month. In the municipality of Brignoles, where Clooney’s property is located, temperatures reach maximum temperatures of up to 17 degrees Celsius in February and there is largely no precipitation.
