After the death of actor Fritz Wepper (1941-2024), several TV channels responded by making adjustments to their programs. Wepper “fell asleep peacefully” in a hospice in Upper Bavaria on Monday morning (March 25) at the age of 82, as his wife Susanne Kellermann (49) confirmed to “Bild”.
Das Erste announced that it would broadcast a 15-minute obituary entitled “Fritz Wepper – The Marathon Man” in Wepper’s honor at 10:50 p.m. on Monday (March 25). This is followed by “Murder in the Best Company – Winter’s Last Case”. In the crime thriller, Wepper played the main role of psychiatrist Wendelin Winter.
On Good Friday, March 29th, Das Erste will show the crime comedy “Lindburg’s Fall” at 3:20 p.m., in which Wepper played television inspector Peter Lindburg, who suddenly has to solve a real criminal case. Das Erste will then broadcast the last two episodes of the series “For Heaven’s Sake,” in which Wepper played Mayor Wolfgang Wöllner for almost 20 years. In the ARD media library, you can also see numerous other contributions, films and episodes with the Munich native, including the comedy “Baby frei Haus” and the crime series “The Commissioner”.
Bayerischer Rundfunk is also changing its program in honor of Wepper. On March 25th, the BR will show the 2021 documentary “My Fritz – A Personal Look at Fritz Wepper” by Wepper’s wife Susanne Kellermann from 10:00 p.m. From the moment he was diagnosed with cancer, she accompanied her husband in his everyday life and his work with the camera. One day later (March 26th) BR shows the television film “Murder in the Best Company: The Sweet Scent of Evil” at prime time. The documentary “Fritz Wepper – The Marathon Man” will also be shown again on BR from 10:00 p.m. At 10:15 p.m. the television film “A Crook of God” follows, in which Wepper played a traveling carpenter who returns to his home on Lake Constance.
On March 26th You can also laugh with Fritz Wepper again on MDR, for example with the television film “Men of Dangerous Age”, in which Wepper can be seen from 12:30 p.m. as a professional convict whose last coup goes wrong.
The true crime channel Crime Investigation also reacted to Wepper’s death: It announced in a press release that it would broadcast an episode of the self-produced true crime film on Thursday, March 28th at 6:10 p.m. and 11:35 p.m. series “Protocols of Evil” in which Wepper played a German serial killer. During filming in 2016, he described the role as “one of the biggest challenges of my acting career to date.” The episode entitled “Fritz Wepper plays the beast” can also be seen on demand via Crime Investigation Play on Apple or Amazon.
