So, like, this 16-year-old kid got arrested on Friday for, get this, running over and killing a dude who was trying to stop some shoplifters at his brother’s store in South El Monte. Kourosh “Steve” Yaghoubi, who was 60 years old, ended up dead after confronting the shoplifters at his family’s Giant Discount Store on April 9. The teen supposedly ran over Yaghoubi as he and the other thieves made a run for it, according to the police. Not really sure if the teen was actually in the store when all this went down. When the cops showed up, Yaghoubi was out cold and all banged up from the hit, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
So, this man in South El Monte was killed on April 9 while trying to be a hero, authorities say. Detectives tracked down the car used in the getaway, which led them to the 16-year-old suspect, but they’re not spilling the beans on his name since he’s a minor. Yaghoubi’s brother, Jim Yaghoubi, spilled the tea to ABC-7 about how he and his brother chased after the shoplifters in the parking lot after they took off with a $10 box of masks without paying. It turned into a brawl, and Jim said one of the thieves socked his brother in the head before the driver mowed him down. “I have no clue why this happened. Honestly, I was there at the last moment of his life. I looked at his face. I saw his eyes,” Jim told ABC-7.
