Package holidays and flight tickets have become significantly more expensive for consumers in the first half of 2023. The Federal Statistical Office registered a price premium of 24.9 percent for international flights compared to the same period last year, which was still partly characterized by corona travel restrictions. According to the agency’s announcement on Tuesday, package tours were an average of 10.2 percent more expensive and were thus also well above the general price trend of 7.4 percent for the period mentioned.

When considering international flights in economy class, ticket prices for flights to Asia and Australia rose by a far above-average 42.5 percent compared to the same period last year. At the beginning of 2022, there was still very weak demand in this direction due to travel restrictions. In other European countries, prices increased by almost 32 percent over the year.

After the end of the travel restrictions, package tours have also increased significantly in price. Here, the tour operators hit domestic destinations in particular with an increase of 14.5 percent. Abroad, the target regions of Greece and the Balearic Islands in particular increased, each with a price increase of 13.5 percent. On average, package holidays abroad became 10.0 percent more expensive.
