Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (51) took a break with his eldest son Xavier (15) after his separation from his wife Sophie (48) became known. The two took a father-son trip to the cinema to see “Barbie.”

“We are Team Barbie,” the Prime Minister of Canada captioned a snap on Instagram. He can be seen with his son Xavier in front of the “Barbie” poster. Both laugh at the camera arm in arm and wear pink clothes to match the film.

Trudeau chose a neon hoodie for the cinema visit and his son a fuchsia t-shirt. Within three weeks, the live-action film grossed one billion US dollars worldwide, making Greta Gerwig (40) the most successful solo director of all time.

The politician shared the father and son photo four days after announcing his split from his wife. The couple have known each other since school and, in addition to Xavier, have daughter Ella-Grace (14) and son Hadrien (9). The two have been married for 18 years. In a statement Trudeau posted to Instagram on Wednesday (August 2), he wrote, “Hi everyone, Sophie and I would like to share the fact that after many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to part ways.” They remained “a close family with a deep love and respect for one another and for all that we have built and will continue to build”.
