Petra Cegla traveled from the North Sea island of Sylt to the Pulheim rolling mill. The 68-year-old dance and body therapist wants to sell a brooch on behalf of her friend at “Bares für Rares”. Moderator Horst Lichter immediately recognizes the beauty of the object: “My dear man! That’s neat.”
Her friend received the brooch many years ago from her noble godmother, Cegla reports, then the expert has the floor. Wendela Horz can’t contain her enthusiasm anymore. The piece of jewelery was “unusually well made”, had an “unusually good quality of stones” and was in “unusually good condition”. In addition, it emphasizes the clear lines and the fine enamelling of the brooch made around 1870. In short: a dream.
The seller calls 2500 euros as the desired price. But Horz goes well beyond this sum with her expertise: she estimates the value at 4000 euros. Petra Cegla can hardly believe her luck and is visibly struggling with tears: “I’m so happy for my girlfriend,” sobs the native of Sylt. Horst Lichter takes her in his arms and calms her down.
In the dealer’s room, Wolfgang Pauritsch is already grabbing the brooch and trying to speak to her: “Are you from Austria?” he asks loudly. So it’s clear: the Austrian wants them, he’s offering 1500 euros right from the start. But Susanne Steiger and Daniel Meyer are also interested, and so the price quickly climbs to over 3,000 euros. In the end, Pauritsch has the upper hand, he buys the noble brooch for 3550 euros. The seller has thus exceeded the desired price by more than 1000 euros!
