Julian Green from SpVgg Greuther Fürth is said to have been racially insulted by fans of third division soccer team Hallescher FC during the DFB Cup game on Saturday evening. “My player was called a monkey several times by the spectators. It didn’t just happen once, twice or three times,” said Fürth coach Alexander Zorniger during the press conference after his team’s 1-0 lead. “The stadium is 95 percent full. There were enough people who could have intervened. Something like this is just not right, regardless of whether it’s happening in Fürth, Nuremberg or Rostock,” said the coach.

HFC press spokeswoman Lisa Schöppe immediately apologized on behalf of the club for the misconduct of some spectators after the Fürth coach had said so. The 28-year-old Green has been playing for Fürth since 2017.
