In April 1996, the wedding bells rang for Hugh Jackman (54) and Deborra-Lee Furness (67). However, more than 27 years later, the former dream couple has now announced that they are going their separate ways. The Hollywood star and his actress colleague confirm their marriage to the US magazine “People” in a statement.

“We have been blessed to share a wonderful, loving marriage as husband and wife for nearly three decades,” Jackmann and Furness explain. “Our journey is now changing and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.” The two Australian actors did not go into more detail about the reason for their separation.

“Our family has always been and always will be our highest priority,” the statement continued. The two of them are starting the new chapter in their lives “with gratitude, love and goodwill”. The couple asks that their privacy – and that of their children – be respected during this major change in the lives of the family members. The two also do not want to comment further on the end of the marriage.

Jackman and Furness met in the mid-1990s on the set of the short-lived series “Correlli” and soon fell in love. She was already a well-known actress back then; today’s Hollywood star had not yet made a name for herself at that point.

Just two weeks after the first meeting, he knew “that we would be together for the rest of our lives,” he told “Today” in 2018. Just a few months later he asked for her hand in marriage and they finally tied the knot in early 1996. The couple has two children: Oscar (23) and Ava (18).
