An algorithm which raises the question
Created in 2005 by Dr. Raffaele Poli and Dr. Loïc Ravenel, the Observatory of the football CIES consists of four researchers specialized in the statistical analysis of football. To establish this prestigious ranking, the Observatory of the football CIES is based on several criteria, such as age, the duration of the contract, the potential, but also the inflation of the market and the interest of the clubs. However, the algorithm used displays results that are sometimes amazing who question the reliability of the method used by the swiss researchers.
And, to everyone’s surprise, Neymar Jr (82.7 Million euros) makes a steep drop from the 19th to the 37th place in the ranking, behind Clement Lenglet (FC Barcelona) and Mikel Oyarzabal (Real Sociedad). Similarly, the legend of the FC Barcelona Lionel Messi is only at 21st place (100.1 Million euros). In a year of the end of his contract with the catalan club, and almost 33 years, the Pulga has seen its prices fall. Finally, Cristiano Ronaldo’s 70th in this ranking (62,8 M€), led by Victor Lindelöf (Manchester United). Only small consolation, the attacker Portuguese is the oldest player in the top 100 (35 years). Estimates for the least surprising.
