A fire broke out in a former administration building at the Heidepark Soltau amusement park. For safety reasons, the approximately 4,500 visitors were directed to their cars and had to leave the park, said spokespersons for the police in the Heidekreis and Heidepark. The fire department was on site with a large contingent of around 160 emergency services, it said in a statement.
The empty building is located in the entrance area of the complex, but not close to the flow of visitors. The fire was localized. The extinguishing work continued into the evening and the police have started investigating the cause of the fire.
“The fire broke out at 2:30 p.m. for unexplained reasons,” said a park spokeswoman. The evacuation worked well in about an hour. Park management expects the amusement park to be open again on Thursday.
