As expected, defender Mats Hummels is celebrating his comeback to the German national soccer team after more than two years at new national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s international debut in Hartford against the USA. The 34-year-old from Dortmund will play in the center of defense alongside Antonio Rüdiger.
Joshua Kimmich from Munich, who is suffering from a flu-like infection, replaces Pascal Groß in defensive midfield. The England professional will play in the center alongside captain Ilkay Gündogan.
Nagelsmann has the two 20-year-olds Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz together in the attacking midfield. There are also Leroy Sané and Niclas Füllkrug as attackers. In total, Nagelsmann made five changes to the starting eleven compared to the DFB team’s 2-1 win against France in September under interim team boss Rudi Völler.
