At New York’s famed Brooklyn bridge, will be entitled to a facelift. The structure, opened in 1883 to connect the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn, is no longer the day of the mobility of new yorkers. Since the emergence of the epidemic, coronaviruses, many of the inhabitants of the “big apple” prefer traveling by bike rather than metro. And the bridge is often crowded. The movement is currently made on two levels : one for cyclists and pedestrians, judged too small, and the other for motorists.
As reported by the british daily Guardian, the municipal council of New York was launched at the beginning of the year a competition of architectural design to adapt the structure to us modern. New yorkers will be asked to vote next week for one of the six selected projects. One of them is planning to phase out of the tract reserved for cars, to be replaced by a pedestrian route. Another advocates the creation of a wooden walkway, with “micro-forest” placed at each end of the bridge. A third finalist wants to make available to cyclists a part of the level currently dedicated to the drivers, and replace one of the road with a space at the destination of the trains. The projects are to be discovered on the website of the architectural firm of Van Halen.

16 500 pedestrians per day
