ENGLEWOOD (Colo.) — Teddy Bridgewater is aiming to start Sunday against the Steelers after sustaining a concussion in Baltimore’s loss to the Denver Broncos.
However, he could be without his top target. Courtland Sutton, wide receiver, injured his ankle in practice Friday.
The Broncos started the season with an impressive depth at wide receiver. They even traded Trinity Benson to Detroit. They have lost Jerry Jeudy (high-ankle sprain), KJ Hamler, and Tristan Benson (ACL) to end the season.
Sutton tied for the team’s lead with 18 receptions and 257 yards. He made his return from injury in Week 2.
Bridgewater received clearance for full a practice on Friday. He met with the medical staff afterwards. He expects to be cleared to practice Saturday before the Broncos (3-1) fly to Pittsburgh (1-3).
Coach Vic Fangio stated that Bridgewater had made good progress and was now at the point of clearing up. “They will decide tomorrow on the final verdict.”
Drew Lock, backup, took all of Wednesday’s snaps before Bridgewater returned. He also took most of Thursday’s and Friday’s first-team repetitions as he worked through the league’s concussion protocol.
Bridgewater was hit by a helmet from Ravens rookie pass rusher Odafe Oweh and he left the field just before halftime. Fangio said this week that although the hit was not flagged, he believed that the NFL should have penalized it.
Fangio stated that guards Dalton Risner, anankle, and Graham Glasgow, knee are available to return after being absent from last week’s match.
Lock, who was fired by Bridgewater as his starting job, was ineffective when he made his first backup appearance. He completed 12 of 21 passes for 113 yards during Denver’s 23-7 defeat last week. Lock was thrown into the end zone with three seconds remaining and was then sacked three more times.
Fangio stated that he was pleased with the team’s handling of the aftermath of the first loss since last year (they were 3-0 in preseason).
“I thought it was great. He said that while a loss is always disappointing, you have to get it out quickly and be ready for the next game. “The Cardinals are the only team that is left unharmed. They’re part of the NFL and moving on to the next match.”
WEDDING BLISS
Because all of the Pittsburgh meeting rooms are reserved for weddings, the Broncos will be doing a Saturday walk-through in Denver.
Fangio explained that “Due to pandemic, many weddings were cancelled last year and they were scheduled for this year. By the time the NFL schedule was released in May, a lot hotels in Pittsburgh had been booked with weddings.”
“So, we have hotel. Fangio stated that Saturday night is not available for meeting space. “We will hold the usual meetings that we would at the hotel before we leave.
NOTES: TE Albert Okwuegbunam (often injured), pulled a hamstring Wednesday and might be on IR Saturday, Fangio stated.
