COLUMBUS (OHIO) — Ohio printed 35,000 new license plates. However, a banner depicting the Wright Brothers’ first plane, The Wright Flyer, was attached to the wrong side of the plate.
Officials from the state immediately acknowledged the error after new plates were revealed on Thursday. They also released a photo of the corrected plate. WBNS-TV reported that a spokesperson for the state said Friday that 35,000 plates had been printed.
“We will recycle 35,000 plates that were printed.” Lindsey Bohrer assistant director of communications at the Ohio Department of Public Safety said that it is too soon to determine if there will any additional costs.
The new license plate shows both rural and urban Ohio, with a banner reading “Birthplace of Aviation” across the horizon. The banner, which should have been attached to the front of the plane, was not attached.
The corrected plates will be available Dec. 29.
