Aaron Ramsey joined Rangers on loan to Juventus for the remainder of the season.
Ramsey’s move is seen as a coup for the Scottish Premiership leader, with Juventus cooperating in wages to ensure he fits into Ibrox’s wage structure.
Many Premier League clubs were also interested in the Wales international, who has scored 20 goals in 71 games for his nation.
Ramsey, who played 83 games for Juventus, could make his Rangers debut against Celtic on Wednesday. Live on Sky Sports.
He stated, “I am really happy to be joining a Club like Rangers where there are so many things to look forward too between now and May.
“I received a lot of offers, but none of them matched the size of this club with European football and the opportunity to play in front 50,000 people every week.
“I’ve had many great conversations with Ross Wilson and the manager, and I’m looking forward to working alongside them and meeting their supporters.”
Giovanni van Bronckhorst added that he was delighted to have Aaron as a manager.
“As soon it was suggested as a possibility I was keen to see us try everything to make the deal happen, and huge credit must be given to Ross and the Board for all the hard work they put into this.”
Ross Wilson, Sporting Director, stated that this was a very exciting signing for Aaron and the Rangers. We worked hard to get Aaron’s signature since the moment I learned of the opportunity to bring Aaron to Rangers about a week earlier.
Aaron is a top-tier player and will play a crucial role in our team. His professional skills will also be an inspiration for our current players.
We see Aaron as a leader and a player of quality. He is a great character to bring into the club. We must reach an agreement within our normal wage structure. Aaron’s willingness to play here has allowed us to do this with the cooperation of Juventus.
Boyd: “Rangers are still one of the biggest UK clubs”
Sky Sports’ Kris Boyd :
“The Aaron Ramsey deal to Rangers shows that the club remains one of the largest in the UK. Rangers has offered him the opportunity to play in front of 50,000 people, European football and to win trophies.
“He isn’t motivated by money, otherwise he wouldn’t be near Rangers. We do know that it is within the wage structure of Rangers so there are no issues. This is a great signing for Rangers and for Scottish football in general.
“Maybe tomorrow when it starts sinking in with people,” Paul Gascoigne’s visit to Rangers was likely the last time a real footballer arrived in Scotland football. Ramsey is exactly that. This is just a glimpse at the appeal of Rangers.”
Ex St Mirren, West Ham & Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand:
It’s telling you why Ally McCoist should go to that place, for Ally McCoist to claim it’s the largest signing since Paul Gascoigne.
“If he does half the work as Paul Gascoigne, he will be regarded as a king.”
“For someone who’s had such a career, with all the ups, downs, and bad injuries, to go to Juventus and not have it work out, to move to Rangers and be a king around Glasgow and Ibrox, would be amazing for him.”
It would be a great way for him see the end and possibly finish his career.”
Merson: Good news for Rangers but bad news for Celtic
It’s great news for Rangers and bad news for Celtic. This just goes to show how far these two teams have advanced and how huge they are. This just shows how huge these two clubs are to me.
“Wales will be playing against Scotland at the World Cup qualifiers. A Scottish team will take him on to give Scotland game time.
“He was disappointing at Serie A. He was a disappointment in Serie A. It’s a surprise that he doesn’t have a lot of Premier League clubs available.
“He is a great midfielder who scores goals. It’s a surprise that he doesn’t have more options. He would never improve the team I know. Frank Lampards aren’t around anymore scoring goals from midfield like that. Newcastle would be proud to have bought players right and left – he’d probably be the best player they ever bought.
Ramsey received widespread praise for his decision to travel overseas and was almost certainly rewarded.
Ramsey’s second campaign at Juventus, under Maurizio Sarr and then Andrea Pirlo, was a success, and saw him win Serie A and Coppa Italia titles.
Massimiliano Allegri has had some issues this season, but mainly due to injuries that have kept him from making more than three Serie A appearances.
Ramsey has missed 17 games in this season’s league, the same number as his two previous seasons at Juventus.
