A portion of the northbound motorway between junction 11-12 is blocked

An air ambulance was called in after a car accident. A portion of the M40 is currently blocked in Warwickshire. A portion of the northbound carriageway is blocked between junction 11-12.

National Highways West Midlands states that a vehicle has passed through the central reservation.

Traffic is temporarily stopped between junction 11A422 (Banbury), and J12 B4451 Gaydon Road, Gaydon.

There were emergency services on the scene, including the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

Drivers are being asked to allow extra time for their journeys if they travel this morning (May 2nd).

Carriageway will be closed “for hours”

National Highways West Midlands confirmed that the carriageway will be closed for ‘hours’.

Update: According to its website, “Emergency services such as Warwickshire Police or The Air Ambulance Service were present.” National Highways has the resources to help with traffic management.

For collision investigations, the carriageway will remain closed for several hours.

Road users are advised not to be surprised by disruptions and to allow for extra travel time.

Trapped traffic can be moved

Trapped traffic will be turned around at J11 and taken off to follow the diversion route.

Police officers and highway patrols are still on the scene.

The car’s driver, a man, was taken to the hospital. His injuries are unknown.

Man hospitalised

Warwickshire Police confirmed that a man was taken to hospital after the collision.

The force stated in a statement that the collision had caused severe disruption to the area.

Two miles of traffic is backed up after the accident.

According to traffic website Inrix, the motorway stretch remains blocked.

The accident scene was attended to by emergency services, including an air ambulance.

National Highways West Midlands has a message for motorists regarding the emergency response to the accident.

It urged motorists not to rush their journeys because the northbound section remains closed.

Traffic website Inrix advised that a diversion has been put in place.

It reads “Diversion-follow the hollow circle symbol to join the M40 at J12(Gaydon).

The motorway that runs around the accident scene is still at a standstill.
