According to Las Vegas homicide detectives, the man who was found dead in a Lake Mead barrel likely died from a gunshot injury.
According to Lt. Ray Spencer’s news release, detectives believe the victim was murdered sometime between the mid-1970s and early 1980s based on the clothing and footwear that was found.
As of this report, the victim was not publicly identified. After being discovered near Hemenway Harbor’s launch ramp, on Sunday afternoon, the remains were taken to Clark County Coroner’s Office.

“The water level continued to fall as the lake shrank. Spencer stated that the barrel is now visible.
This discovery has led to curiosity about other secrets that could be revealed by the declining water levels at Lake Mead.
