The sensual gaze of French actress Juliette Binoche will be in charge of announcing the 70th edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival to be held next fall. In a press conference, the director of the Zinemaldi, José Luis Rebordinos, also reported that the actress will be present at the Kursaal to collect one of the Donostia awards.

The award is intended to be a recognition of the long career of the actress, who has embodied nearly 75 characters. “From powerful heroines to fragile beings, going through historical figures, dramatic roles and comic roles”, Rebordinos highlighted.

Binoche’s look will be the most important of this edition, without a doubt, although not the only one. In fact, all the posters of the different sections are dedicated to the looks, or not looks, of their protagonists.

“Looking at something is appreciating it,” he explained during the presentation this Friday in San Sebastian.

Thus, this year’s Horizontes Latinos is presented by a woman who seems to have come out of a comic book with her eyes clouded by a chilli pepper, while in the New Directors section it is a sponge that covers a man’s face. Because looks will be the common thread of this year’s festival. “In these scattered times, the more things we pretend to see, the less time we have left to observe,” she explained. Hence, the posters have been conceived as a “homage” to ways of looking at life and cinema.

It will therefore be the fourth time that Juliette Binoche has delighted the fans who year after year flock to the doors of the Maria Cristina hotel with her presence. She is the protagonist of great successes such as ‘Amelie’, she won an Oscar for her work in ‘The English Patient’ and she will receive the award at a gala which, as is tradition, will be held at the Kursaal. After the delivery, the film ‘Avec amour et acharnement’ (Fire) will be screened, directed by Claire Denis, who received the Silver Bear for best direction at the last Berlin Film Festival.
