The King travels today to Abu Dhabi, accompanied by the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Luis Manuel Cuesta, to convey his condolences to the new President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the death of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed al Nahyan . A visit in which Felipe VI is not expected to meet with his father, the King Emeritus, Juan Carlos I, according to sources from the Royal House.

Don Felipe will convey his condolences to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayid Al Nahyan, President of the State of the United Arab Emirates and Emir of Abu-Dhabi.

It is expected that the presidents of France and Turkey, the Kings of Belgium and the Netherlands will also attend, in addition to the president of the Council of the European Union, Charles Michel, among other leaders.

The King has been present at similar ceremonies held in Oman, for the passing of His Majesty Qabus Bin Said in 2020, or Saudi Arabia, for the passing of His Majesty Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in 2015.

After the death in September 2020 of Sheikh Sabá al Ahmad al Jaber al Sabá, emir of Kuwait, Don Felipe was unable to go to the Kuwaiti capital due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic.
