The Councilor for Culture and Education, Teo García, commented this Sunday after a first balance with the Toledo Booksellers Association on the XVII Book Fair, which has marked a milestone in terms of visitors, presentations, signatures and sales, a a fact that has already put the team that coordinates this appointment with literature to work to extend the number of days of the fair for the year 2023.
And it is that, as the Councilor for Culture has explained, more than 32,000 people have passed through the Plaza de Zocodover to participate in the activities scheduled for the XVII Book Fair and to acquire culture by taking an interest in publishing news as well as in authors men and women from Toledo who have had the best possible showcase at the fair to publicize their works.
Added to this number of visitors is the number of copies sold in the 15 booths installed in Plaza de Zocodover, exceeding 19,000 volumes, a very positive figure in the words of Teo García and more than encouraging for the book sector. “We have exceeded all expectations, the cultural and economic significance of the fair for the city has been outstanding,” said the municipal head of Culture and Education.
This edition has had 30 presentations and more than 80 authors have had space to sign their books and share anecdotes and experiences with readers, all the result of the joint work of booksellers, publishers, authors and Toledo City Council, which has opened the fair to new audiences, such as schoolchildren, with activities programmed in collaboration with educational centers in which up to 500 boys and girls have participated through the Toledo Educa municipal program and the proposals of the Toledo Lee project.
Finally, Teo García highlighted the great reception of El Greco Lector and the tree of books made by the School of Art, two installations that, as he pointed out, “have been another attraction at the Book Fair, being aspects that complement the shared goals of culture and municipal educational programs in a fun and engaging way.
