Backless dresses are not one of the current fashion trends for 2023, but they have still secured a permanent place in the fashion industry. The same applies to backless tops and tops, which are particularly noticeable in the warm summer months – and with them numerous bra fasteners. There are special models that were developed for exactly this purpose: They are intended to reveal a deep back neckline and still support a woman’s breasts as usual. How the fashionable items of clothing differ and what you should consider when buying a backless bra is explained in detail in this article.
A backless bra should meet the same criteria as a regular bra – otherwise you could leave it out completely. In addition to the typical support function, the cups are essential for a well-fitting bra. But what specifically sets it apart and how does it differ from a classic model? We present you a small selection:
Normally, the clasp of a bra is centered under the shoulder blades – and is therefore visible when you wear a dress or top with a plunging neckline. Unless you have a backless bra with a lower closure: the Backless Bra from Wonderbra is a good example. It is available in two colors (beige and black) and four cup sizes (A to D) and can be individually adjusted to your figure without slipping.
So-called stick-on bras do not have any straps or an underbust band: As the name suggests, the cups have a kind of sticky surface so that they stick to the breasts. Depending on the manufacturer, there are models with a clip closure between the breasts to create a beautiful cleavage. There are also backless bras with a lace-up closure that provide the desired push-up effect. It’s important to know that some cups need to be cleaned after wearing them – and the adhesion can decrease over time. In addition, the skin must be completely free of oil for an adhesive bra to stick to it. In other words, you should not put any cream or oil on yourself before wearing it.
And then there are also special bra extensions that can be used on (almost) all models: The low back straps – that’s the technical term – are hooked onto the clasp and closed crosswise on the stomach. This means that the bra sits significantly lower on the back and is no longer visible if you wear a low-cut dress or top. Here, too, there are models in different colors (black, beige and transparent), so that you can visually adapt the extension to your bra and your taste.
As an alternative to a backless bra, there are nipple covers. Their sole purpose is to cover the nipples so that they are not visible under a thin dress or top – as long as you are not wearing anything underneath. They have no support function and do not replace a bra, so they are only to be seen as practical accessories.
And one last note: Adhesive bras are suitable for women with small breasts as they do not have a high support function and therefore cannot offer optimal support. For women with a slightly larger bust, backless bras with adjustable straps are a better choice.
