The town of Luceni, more than 200 km from the coast, this weekend becomes the epicenter of a sport that is usually practiced at sea. And it is that, from Friday to Sunday, the southern spot of the Loteta reservoir will host the Spanish Cup of inland waters in formula kite and kite foil mode. It is the second edition to be officially held by the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation -the first was held last year at the Alarcón reservoir (Cuenca)-, and kite surfing, which will become an Olympic sport from of 2024, is on the crest of the wave.

Thus, on May 27, 28 and 29, the La Loteta reservoir will host competitors who come from different parts of the Spanish geography such as Andalusia, Galicia, Madrid, Catalonia, the Valencian Community, or the Basque Country, and of course Aragon.

Participants from other countries such as France or Switzerland are also expected.

Thanks to the Cierzo, La Loteta is one of the few inland water locations where it is possible to hold this type of event, since in this area there are more than 200 windy days a year. In addition, with its extension of 6 kilometers long; 2 km wide and 21 km of coastline, make this reservoir a perfect place for this sport, which has already become Olympic.

On Friday 27 will take place the delivery of numbers and the training day. The kick-off of the competition will be given on Saturday morning, throughout the day and until Sunday. In total, 12 mixed team regattas will compete to get on the podium, with the trophies being awarded on Sunday afternoon.

The Spanish Cup will be possible in Luceni thanks to the support of the Government of Aragon, Zaragoza Provincial Council, the Ribera Alta del Ebro region and the Luceni City Council. And it is sponsored by Aragón Turismo, Ambar, Trangoworld and Volkswagen.
