Castilla y León has sent the first suspected case of ‘monkeypox’ or monkey pox for the sample to be analyzed at the National Center for Microbiology, belonging to the Carlos III Health Institute and located in Majadahonda (Madrid). The results will be known once the pertinent analyzes are completed, which accumulate after the appearance of several infections in Spain, sources from the Ministry of Health informed Ical.
The Junta de Castilla y León, through the General Directorate of Public Health, reported in a statement that it had activated the action, epidemiological and care protocol. The case, now classified as suspicious, meets clinical and epidemiological criteria, for which the Epidemiology Services have transferred the corresponding samples to the National Center for Microbiology, a reference laboratory for analysis by PCR test.
Likewise, the sex of the person, the province of residence or the hospital in which they could have been treated are unknown due to the rights that the patient has so that their identity is not revealed. This suspicious case, the first to be registered in the Community, is following all the protocols described for this disease by the Ministry of Health, such as isolation.
The Ministry of Health has increased this Wednesday to 59 positive cases in non-human smallpox. Of these, 20 have already been confirmed as monkeypox and the rest are awaiting sequencing. Another 41 have tested negative. To date, the Carlos III Health Institute has received samples belonging to 100 suspected cases of ‘monkeypox’ or monkey pox.
