Fabio Di Giannantonio, an Italian motorcycle racer, will start on pole in the MotoGP Italian Grand prix at Mugello circuit. Frenchman Fabio Quartararo, a reigning champion and world championship leader, will start at 6th.

The 23-year old Italian rider won the second pole of her career, his first in MotoGP. This was his first year in the premier category. He will start on an entirely azzurra frontrow with Marco Bezzecchi (2nd), and Luca Marini (3rd), alongside him.

Quartararo, Yamaha, was not at his best during practice on Friday and Saturday morning. However, Quartararo set the sixth fastest time in Q2, the second qualifying session. This took place under very dark skies and rain.

After his fears of the day, the Vaucluse Johann Zarco (4th Ducati-Pramac) will start on Sunday from the second row alongside Francesco Bagnaia (2 Ducati), giving the Italian team the opportunity to take the first five spots on the starting grid for the eighth round.
