Lormont places public speaking training as one of its top priorities. The “Le Messagers”, competition was created in 2018 by Martine Lucciani, Renaud Borderie and Jesuisnoiredemonde collective. It aims to teach Lormont youth how to speak in public.

The theme for this year was “What are you going to do with your dreams?” The event was well received by participants. It involved young people from twenty New Aquitaine schools, from primary through high school. Each class had a “Messenger” speaker, and all were able to give their speech in front 700 spectators last April.

Yasser M’Djomba, a distinguished student messenger, won a medal from the city. Marie Ange Pautrot (headmaster) and Celine Saillan (literature teacher), also received medals. This was a rare distinction that elicited emotion and recognition from high school students.

Stephane Peres was also present at the ceremony, as well as Beata Umubeyeyi Mairesse (writer and president of jury), Yasmina Boultam (regional councilor), and Jean Touzeau, mayor of Lormont Jean Touzeau.
