Sebastian “El Hotzo” Hotz (27) owes his fame to the Internet. The German satirist, podcast producer and writer published his first book in April 2023, which critically examines the topic of men and success coaching. The novel “Mindset” has now been adapted for the theater stage. In addition to his work as a writer, Hotz also works as an author for the satirical show “Magazin Royale” by satirist Jan Böhmermann (42) and also brings up critical topics there.

In a recent interview with the “Rheinische Post”, the 27-year-old spoke openly about how he assesses the impact of satire on social change. Hotz is of the opinion that satirical content cannot actively improve anything. “I don’t want to deny that using satire to draw attention to grievances is in itself a good thing. But you shouldn’t overestimate the effect,” he explained in an interview with “RP Online”. “In the end, it’s still an entertainment format. For various reasons, I wouldn’t want a world in which satirists do politics.”

He himself has 1.3 million followers on Instagram and half a million on X (formerly Twitter). Since he has “the great luxury” of not being dependent on his work as an Internet star, he doesn’t feel any pressure if he doesn’t post anything from time to time. However, he now has to “think about it before I put something out into the world,” says El Hotzo. “Nevertheless, I’m still relatively spontaneous and free with what I do. I don’t plan any content. It’s more a summary of what I’ve just been thinking about.”

He had dreamed of writing a book for a long time. “I had this book project as a dream in my head since I was a teenager. Then I was very lucky that the opportunity came through the second educational opportunity Instagram to make it come true and write a book.” The novel “Mindset” is about the entrepreneur and coach Maximilian Krach, who wants to get young men on the road to success with the help of his seminars. But his own successful appearance is deceptive. The stage play by Robert Zeigermann will be on stage at the Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf from November 4th.
