A possible cage fight between tech billionaires Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk is becoming a distant prospect: Meta boss Zuckerberg has torn his cruciate ligament and will be out of fights of this type for months. “I tore my cruciate ligament while sparring and just had surgery to replace it,” the 39-year-old shared on Instagram. He also sent a picture in which he can be seen in a hospital bed with a splinted knee.
Zuckerberg explained that he wanted to train for a mixed martial arts fight in early 2024. “But that has now been delayed a bit. But I’m still looking forward to fighting the fight after my recovery.” Mixed martial arts (MMA) mixes different types of combat sports and martial arts such as kickboxing, Thai boxing and wrestling. Zuckerberg, who thanked the doctors and team for their support, recently worked regularly with martial arts trainers.
Musk knows “how to reach me”
Zuckerberg and Tesla boss Musk have repeatedly sparked speculation about a possible duel in the cage with posts on social media in recent months. Musk challenged Zuckerberg in June, who agreed.
After a few weeks of radio silence, the 52-year-old Musk wrote in August that he would have to recover from shoulder surgery for a few months. Zuckerberg then expressed skepticism that there would be a fight. If Musk ever wants to get serious about an official event, “he knows how to reach me,” said the Meta boss. Until then, he will compete with people “who take the sport seriously.” Now Zuckerberg himself will have to take a break for a few months.
