The National Microbiology Center of Majadahonda (Madrid) has informed the Ministry of Health on Thursday that the two cases under investigation for monkeypox have tested negative for orthopoxvirus PCR, so they have been ruled out.

The Ministry activated on Tuesday, through the General Directorate of Public Health, the action protocol, epidemiological and assistance, before two suspected cases of monkeypox infection in two provinces of the Community.

The Ministry of Health sent the corresponding tests, following the systematization established by the Coordinating Center for Health Alerts and Emergencies (C.C.A.E.S) for the entire National Health System.

The cases now under investigation met clinical and epidemiological criteria, so the Epidemiology Services of the Board transferred the samples to the National Microbiology Center of Majadahonda (Madrid), a reference laboratory for analysis by PCR test.
