The Exhibition Hall of the Diputación de Alicante hosts until July 4 a sample of carpets and rugs from Crevillent in a new example of the support of the provincial institution to this emblematic sector of the province.

The president of the Diputación, Carlos Mazón, has been in charge of inaugurating this exhibition, made up of rugs and photographs, accompanied by the vice-president Julia Parra, and the president of the National Union of Manufacturers of Carpets, Rugs, Coverings and Related Industries and Auxiliares (Unifam), Eduardo Díaz, promoter of the exhibition.

Mazón has highlighted the roots and tradition of the rug sector in our province, whose production began in Crevillent in 1411. “Crevillent rugs are a symbol of tradition, know-how and quality,” said the president, who has highlighted, in turn, the bet that the manufacturers of rugs and carpets in the municipality of Baix Vinalopó make for “innovation, research, technology and design”.

Likewise, it has valued the generational change in this industry and its modernization capacity.

The Crevillent rug closed the 2021 financial year with a 35% increase in sales and a 40% increase in exports, although, as Díaz has admitted, profit margins have fallen due to increased costs or raw Materials.
