The sub-delegate of the Government of Spain in the province of Toledo, Carlos Ángel Devia, has presented the Speed Control Campaign carried out by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) and the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard on the roads of the province with “the fundamental objective of making drivers aware of the dangers and consequences of speeding”, highlighted the sub-delegate.

This campaign consists of a significant increase in speed controls using the maximum number of available human and material resources.

Thus, the agents of the Traffic Subsector of the Civil Guard of the province of Toledo will intensify the controls that they usually carry out on speeding, at any time and on any road, especially conventional roads.

The incidence of speed in many of the accidents that occur in urban areas, mainly during weekends, means that the participation of the municipalities in this campaign is of extraordinary importance.

Thus, the municipalities of Talavera de la Reina and Illescas have confirmed their adherence to this campaign thanks to the means of speed detection that they have.

The presentation of this campaign was attended by the provincial head of Traffic in Toledo, Eva María Moreno, the captain of the Traffic subsector of the Civil Guard, Andrés Alcaraz, and the president of Aspaym, José Ramón del Pino, together with two volunteers from the Association of people with spinal cord injury and other physical disabilities, which have had an impact on transferring to drivers the consequences that a traffic accident has had on them, either due to inadequate speed or due to driving distraction.

The president of Aspaym has stressed the importance of not exceeding the speed limits and respecting all the rules because “after an accident the consequences are irreversible and we must be aware that this can happen to all of us”, reported the Subdelegation in Press release.

For her part, the head of the DGT in the province of Toledo has pointed out that inappropriate speed not only has a direct impact on the number and severity of traffic accidents, it also has a negative influence on the environment, the quality life and fuel consumption.

For all these reasons, “this campaign will help drivers exercise extreme caution and reduce the average speed of traffic, which will have a very positive impact on road safety and the environment.”
