A funeral service will be dedicated to the former party and head of state of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev (1931-2022), next Saturday (September 3) in the Russian capital Moscow. According to “Spiegel”, Gorbachev’s daughter Irina reported this to the Interfax news agency. However, she was unable to say whether the funeral service was a state funeral.
The time period given was 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The location of the event will be the “House of Trade Unions” near the Kremlin, it said. Gorbachev died in a Moscow clinic at the age of 91 after a serious and protracted illness, the Central Clinical Hospital (ZKB) announced last Tuesday (August 30). He is to be buried in the New Maiden Cemetery in Moscow – next to his wife Raissa, who died in 1999 at the age of 67.
