The cast for Francis Ford Coppola’s (83) heart project “Megalopolis” continues to take shape. As the industry portal “Deadline” reports, the star director has now also been able to engage Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman (85) for the epic drama.
In addition to the US actor, Chloe Fineman (34), Isabelle Kusman, D.B. Sweeney (60) and newcomer Bailey Ives are new on board. From fall 2022, they will appear alongside film stars Adam Driver (38), Shia LaBeouf (36), Jason Schwartzman (42), Nathalie Emmanuel (33), Aubrey Plaza (38), Kathryn Hunter (65), Laurence Fishburne (61 ) and Coppola’s younger sister Talia Shire (76) stand in front of the camera. Filming will then begin in the US state of Georgia.
As early as February 2022, Coppola announced in an interview with “GQ” magazine that he would finally realize his dream project “Megalopolis”. He had had this vision in mind since the 1990s. The production should therefore cost around 120 million dollars (about 120.6 million euros). Coppola wants to pay most of the amount out of his own pocket.
The film is about a love story set in a futuristic New York. At the same time, however, issues such as political ambition and social problems will also play a role. Coppola compares the plot with a Roman epic, for example with the style of “Ben Hur”, and wants his film to question forms of society and stimulate thought.
It is not yet known when the film will be released in cinemas. Coppola stated he would “take easily three years to make this film”.
