The cries of the people on the streets of Iran are deafening. Only the government in Tehran is deaf, said Baerbock. The Greens politicians promised the people of Iran that solidarity would not diminish.

In Iran, there have been massive protests against the death of Mahsa Amini for around three weeks. The young Kurd died on September 16 after being arrested by the vice squad in Tehran three days earlier on charges of not wearing her headscarf in accordance with regulations. According to activists, she was beaten while in police custody and died of a head injury. The police deny any responsibility for the death of the young woman.

The FDP also spoke out in favor of enforcing further sanctions against Tehran. As the “Bild am Sonntag” reported, the Presidium of the Liberals called on the federal government in a draft resolution to implement further measures against Iran, if necessary without the EU in an alliance of willing countries in Europe.
