She is an Oscar winner, a colorful Hollywood figure and a political activist. But now Susan Sarandon (77) has apparently gone overboard in the eyes of her acting agency. After taking part in several pro-Palestinian demonstrations, the United Talent Agency quickly pulled the ripcord and kicked Sarandon out the door. As the “Los Angeles Times” reported, the UTA did not want to comment on the reasons. However, these are obvious.
As pictures and video recordings prove, according to a report in the New York Post, Sarandon took part in a demonstration in front of the New York Times building on November 17th, where anti-Jewish statements were loudly made. Among other things, a demonstrator there shouted “bomb the New York Times”. Sarandon himself is said to have joined in the anti-Semitic slogan “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”
Sarandon also gave a speech there, from which she was quoted as saying: “There are a lot of people who are afraid. They are afraid because they are Jewish. They are now experiencing what it means to be in this country Being a Muslim.” She also called for an immediate ceasefire and used the image of “babies dying in incubators.”
Sarandon also uses her Twitter account for her agenda. There she shared, among other things, a performance by former “Pink Floyd” musician Roger Waters (80), as he sings in front of huge screens that show, among other things, “Stop the Genocide”. Waters has been criticized for anti-Semitic statements and actions for years. Among other things, the Berlin police investigated after a concert at which he appeared in a leather coat with a red armband. The parallels to the SS uniform gave rise to initial suspicion of incitement, said a police spokesman.
The fate of the Palestinian people has long been close to Sarandon’s heart. In 2017, she produced, among other things, a documentary about a catering service run by Palestinian women in a Beirut refugee camp. In mid-October, she also signed an open letter from numerous Hollywood stars calling on US President Joe Biden (80) to work for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Her colleagues Joaquin Phoenix, Cate Blanchett and Kristen Stewart were also among the signatories.
Susan Sarandon’s list of political actions is long. In recent years she has supported numerous protests and has been arrested several times. Most recently in May 2023 at a demonstration demanding fair wages for restaurant employees. But as early as 1999, she protested on the streets against the New York police’s “racist search methods.” In 2000, she demonstrated in front of the UN headquarters as an opponent of the death penalty and was taken into custody on site.
In 2003 she took to the streets against the US invasion of Iraq. She also took part in the “Occupy Wall Street” protests in 2011. In the same year she was harshly criticized for exposing the then Pope Benedict XVI. being called a Nazi. She was also arrested in 2018 while demonstrating against the immigration policies of then US President Donald Trump.
