The SPD clearly won the state elections in Lower Saxony. The party of Prime Minister Stephan Weil was again the strongest force ahead of the second-placed CDU, as the preliminary results published on the Internet showed late on Sunday evening. The FDP narrowly missed entering the state parliament.
