Handball Bundesliga team HSV Hamburg lost its home game against the Rhein-Neckar Löwen. The Hanseatic League suffered a 32:36 (15:19) defeat on Saturday. In front of the 6,741 spectators, Hamburg’s Casper Mortensen and Mannheim’s Niclas Kirkelökke were the best throwers with ten hits each.
Without their injured backcourt players Dani Baijens (broken hand) and Dominik Axmann (torn cruciate ligament), the hosts had a very difficult time in the early stages. Juri Knorr, on the other hand, organized the Lions’ game with a lot of overview. In the 19th minute, the guests led 15:8, and HSVH coach Torsten Jansen took his second timeout.
The Hamburg game only really picked up steam after the break. With four goals in a row we equalized to 19:19 (34th). Strong support in this phase was provided by goalkeeper Jens Vortmann, who, among other things, fished out of the air a casually executed seven-meter lift from Mannheim’s Gustav Davidsson.
As a result, the hosts missed numerous opportunities to take the lead. This ended a long dry spell for the Lions. After Hamburg returned to the Bundesliga, they lost all four duels with the North Germans.
