Can a German museum director govern a major Italian city? The Florentines, or at least a considerable part of them, seem to be quite confident of Eike Schmidt. He is given a good chance if he enters the race in the mayoral election in Florence in the spring. Schmidt is popular in the capital of Tuscany and known throughout the country. The art historian has been running the Uffizi Gallery in Florence for eight years with great success.
