Austria’s state security agency is investigating a series of explosions in the vicinity of Jehovah’s Witnesses. According to the police, the car of a member of the religious community caught fire in the municipality of Premstätten in the southern state of Styria. Witnesses reported “some kind of explosion.” As in previous incidents, no one was injured.
In August 2023, bombs exploded on two Jehovah’s Witnesses’ vehicles, also in Styria, while their owners were attending a prayer session. At the end of March, a functional explosive device was found and defused in the entrance area of a religious community meeting hall in the state.
The Styrian State Office for State Security and Combating Extremism is investigating these cases. According to their own information, Jehovah’s Witnesses have around 22,600 active members in Austria.
