The new Deutsche Bahn timetable has been in effect since early Sunday morning. According to the group, the change means faster connections for passengers, more frequent frequencies on some routes, new express trains, but also rising prices. After ten years of construction, the new line between Wendlingen and Ulm in Baden-Württemberg has also been in regular operation since Sunday morning, which the honorary chairman of the Pro Bahn passenger association, Karl-Peter Naumann, described as the “most important change” because it accelerates and more lead to traffic on important routes.
The group has also increased the number of seats it offers in long-distance transport. The ICE 3 Neo has already been in use between NRW and Frankfurt for a few days – a new train based on the well-known ICE 3. The new vehicles are also to be used on other routes in the future. Deutsche Bahn has ordered 73 trains from the manufacturer Siemens Mobility, which are to be delivered by 2029.
Long-distance train travel has been more expensive since this Sunday. Deutsche Bahn has increased long-distance transport prices by an average of five percent. The so-called flex tickets even cost almost seven percent more. The prices for the three Bahncard subscriptions, with which passengers get a 25, 50 or 100 percent discount per journey, have risen by 4.9 percent. According to Bahn, however, the saver and super saver prices as well as the reservation costs for seats remain unchanged.
Right on time for the timetable change, train services between Berlin and Hanover have been running according to plan again since Sunday after a section of the route had been closed for more than three weeks. According to a spokesman, after the collision of two freight trains in Lower Saxony, the railways had rebuilt the track bed in the past few days, laid rails and repaired the control and safety technology.
