Ski racer Alexander Schmid missed out on a podium finish again in the last giant slalom of the year, but confirmed his good form.

When Swiss high-flyer Marco Odermatt won, the Allgäu native had to settle for fifth place in Alta Badia. The gap to Odermatt was 1.38 seconds. Second was Henrik Kristoffersen from Norway (0.20) followed by Zan Kranjec from Slovenia (0.92).

Last year, Schmid celebrated his only podium finish in his favorite discipline, coming third on the demanding Gran Risa. “I’m very, very happy. It was a cool, dedicated ride. Driving the Gran Risa is a highlight of the season,” said Schmid on BR.

Anton Grammel (22nd) and Fabian Gratz (25th) collected their first World Cup points in giant slalom this winter. Julian Rauchfuss and Stefan Luitz missed the final round of the top 30. For the technicians there is still a slalom in Madonna di Campiglio on Thursday at the end of the year.
