The Duke of Cambridge recently awarded Deborah James a damehood for her tireless campaigning efforts to raise awareness about bowel cancer. Prince William visited her to bestow the honor.
Deborah James, Dame of the Church, has shared her worries about falling asleep every night because she doesn’t know how much time she has left.
After campaigning to raise awareness about bowel cancer, the podcast host is also known as Bowel Babe. She revealed that she was receiving her end-of-life care at home in Surrey two weeks ago.
The 40-year old was diagnosed with bowel carcinoma in 2016. She has kept her over 800,000 Instagram followers updated with her treatment and candid posts about her progress.
After raising almost PS7m for cancer charities, Deborah admitted that she is now tired because she is afraid to go to bed.
She spoke to The Sun and said that she didn’t plan on dying soon, but that it was so unpredictable.
“I am afraid to fall asleep, and that is one of the main reasons I feel so tired.” I’m afraid to go to bed.
Dame Deborah also talked about the support she has received from her family since she started receiving home care.
With Sebastian Bowen, she has two children, Hugo (14 years) and Eloise (12 years).
She stated that she believes my family is knackered. They have all been amazing and went above and beyond to take care of me and nurse me.
“What I’ve seen in them the past two weeks is deep, true love. It’s overwhelming. They’ve all been incredible. They are under tremendous pressure right now, and I wouldn’t be able to do any more without them.
“I strongly believe that my children shouldn’t see me stressed or agitated. I want them to see me having a great day.
