BRISTOL (Tenn.) — Steve Torrence ran the fastest Top Fuel in Bristol Dragway’s history Saturday, to qualify for the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals.

Torrence finished qualifying with a time of 3.667 seconds at 331.28 miles per hour for his fourth No. Torrence was the No. 1 qualifier this season and 31st overall in his career. This was the third attempt to set the Thunder Valley track record.

Torrence, who is the points leader and was also the defending champion of the season, said that “that was really important for us.” “We have been looking at that over these last races. You don’t get it overnight, and you have to really work for going mid-3.60s. It’s a great track and is truly exceptional. The car pulled out hard from the back on that run and was very quick in the early stages. It was a great confidence booster for tomorrow. You have to get out there and throw it down.

Alexis DeJoria was the winner. Scotty Pollacheck took the No. 1 spot in Funny Car, while Alexis DeJoria claimed the No. 1.

DeJoria was the first to earn her No. DeJoria was the first qualifier in five year, running 3.907 at 326.79 mph in a Toyota Camry. Pollacheck was ranked No. Pollacheck was No. 1 with a 6.859 at 193.80 on an EBR.
